Where we work

Ongata Rongai Sub-County, Kajiado North

A community-based maternal and newborn health programme bringing essential health information, support and referral links closer to mothers, babies and families.

St John Ambulance Kenya joined the wider St John Mama na Mwana initiative through a pilot in 2025, focused on Ongata Rongai Sub-County in Kajiado North. Through Community Health Promoters and St John volunteers, the programme supports household visits and community health sessions covering antenatal care, postnatal care, skilled deliveries, family planning, immunization, nutrition and maternal and newborn danger signs. During the 2025 pilot, the programme reached 4,003 primary beneficiaries and delivered more than 27,800 community health lessons. Community referrals also strengthened links between households and health facilities, while regular reporting supports data-driven programme improvement.
