At the heart of Kenya’s capital is Nairobi region. It is one of the most disaster-prone counties in Kenya, with high populations in informal settlements faced with frequent fatal fire disasters, collapsing structures and sanitation challenges among others.
The Region with its offices located at the ground floor of the National Headquarter offices has approximately 4000 members a majority of whom are Youth.Most members are uniformed volunteers aged between 6 to 35 years old, drawn from various schools, colleges and universities within Nairobi.
Nairobi region is divided into six Corp each headed by a Corp superintendent and consists of between 2 to 20 divisions each. The Division being the smallest unit of the organization is headed by a divisional superintendent. The divisions are further divided into categories namely; Badgers (ages 6yrs to 12yrs), Cadets (ages 13 to 17yrs) and Adults (ages 17yrs to 35yrs). Currently Nairobi region has over 4000 members
With one of the largest volunteer movements in the country, St. John Ambulance has volunteers all over the Nairobi who volunteer their leisure time to render First Aid and emergency care at accidents and incidents scenes, offer community based services, giving first aid cover at public gatherings, training in leadership and personal development programmes, and being a center for bringing up useful members of the society through the St John Cadet and Badger programs.
The Region has various adult units based around the city in; Eastleigh, Githurai, Kayole, Embakasi and at our Headquarters located off parliament road. One can volunteer at any one of these units that meet weekly.
