Peer Education
HIV/AIDS is one of Kenya's biggest health challenges. Being involved with youth and the community, St John Kenya has continued to increase its presence in mitigating this scourge through various avenues. As part of its interventions, St John started the Peer Education training in 2005 in partnership with the National Organization of Peer Educators (NOPE).
So far, the programme has seen hundreds of cadets and adult members trained on how to engage their peers in discussing and dealing with issues to do with HIV and AIDS. Refresher course and new trainings are done every year, and many divisions have co-opted peer education into their annual programmes. It was estimated that by the end of 2008, over 4,000 had been reached as a result of peer-to-peer interventions by our members.
