St John Kenya is mourning the death of one of its most respected and decorated officers, the Regional Commissioner for Nairobi Region, Hakim Wansawa.

Mr. Wansawa passed away on the morning of February 21 after a grissly road accident that claimed two lives on Nairobi's Thika Road. Incidentally, Mr. Wansawa met his death at his most cherished place of work - in an ambulance travelling from offering paramedic services outside the city.

The late commissioner had just started serving his 16th year as a member of St John, after joining as a cadet member in 1994. His cheerful demeanor endeared him to many and his keen sense of discipline and exemplary performance saw him rise fast through the ranks to his appointment as Regional Commissioner in 2007.

Mr. Wansawa was buried on the same day in accordance with muslim tradition at the Kariokor Muslim Cemetery in Nairobi, attended by hundreds of members and staff.
