St John Enters Garissa
Posted: 01-04-2010
St John Kenya will soon be in every province in the country, if plans to establish the Garissa office go as planned. Currently, St John operates in 7 of the 8 provinces of Kenya, with an office in each provincial capital. The North Eastern Province, headquartered in Garissa, has been the only region without St John services.
That is set to change soon. St John Kenya CEO Selinah Kibogy made a reconnaisance visit to the region in mid-March to explore possibilities of setting up an office. During her visit, the CEO held very productive talks with various players in the Region, including the North Eastern Provincial Commissioner and his deputy, the District Commissioner for Garissa District, the Provincial Medical Officer and several of his officers as well as businessmen and other leaders in the Region.

The PC for North Eastern Province, Mr. Ole Seriani, welcomed the initiative by St John Ambulance and emphasized that the province stood to benefit greatly in the areas of First Aid, disaster preparedness, ambulance services and other health interventions. On his direction, the Provincial General Hospital has identified some run-down facilities that can be repaired and used as St John offices at the start.
Consultations are ongoing to establish a Regional Council with the patronage of the PC and support from local businessmen and leaders, as well as with the PGH to work out an agreement for use of the facilities.
St John is coming to Garissa soon!
