Sub-Prior Visits St John Kenya

The Sub-Prior of the Order of St John, Prof. Villis Marshall, AC, GCSt.J, had a near royal visit to St John Kenya on 25th - 28th February 2010 and left amazed not only at Kenya's hospitality but at the standard of St John volunteers in Kenya.
The Sub-Prior's itinerary included talks with senior government officials, including the Minister for Youth Affairs Prof. Hellen Sambili as well as the British High Commissioner, Mr. Rob Macaire. Prof. Marshall expressed his hope that these talks would help bolster the image of St John operations in Kenya and support from the government.
The Sub-Prior also had meetings with members of staff at the Secretariat, as well as members of the National Executive Council and received brifeings on the various activities and progress areas for St John Kenya.
Members of Nairobi Region put up a memorable welcome for the Sub-Prior on the 27th, with a Parade Inspection, a Drill Display by Kayole Cadets as well as being taken through the running of Divisions by volunteers from City 17 Division. he also had a chance to view impressive First Aid displays by Badgers from NPC Woodley Badger Set.

The Sub-Prior presented awards to various volunteers who had excelled in service in 2009, and got a chance to visit world-famous Nairobi National Park accompanied by the St John Badgers. The Sub-Prior's final port of call was at the Kyumvi blackspot rescue center, where he met and interacted with volunteers who offer emergency response at accidents around the famous black-spot.
Prof. Marshall expressed gratitude and appreciation for the work of St John in Kenya in a way that is best summed up in his own words: I wish I could take all of you with me and go show the rest of the St John world how you do things...
