Home Based Care
Several St John units have been established in areas where there are many people living with HIV/AIDS and unable to take care of themselves. As a result, St John Kenya started training its members in home-based care as Community Health Workers (CHWs), with assistance from the Johanniter Foundation. A total of 1,598 CHWs have been trained so far. These have gone ahead to train caregivers from among the families of people living with HIV/AIDS, and about 1,700 of these have been trained so far.
The total number of clients receiving service from the CHWs and caregivers was 2,180 at the end of 2008.
