Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, 28th September 2011: An explosion of a tank containing a toxic gas left 48 people admitted to hospital, some in critical condition. The explosion, at a scrap metal yard in the densely populated Shauri Moyo Estate in Nairobi, caused panic as residents and passers-by inhaled the chlorine acid fumes.

 

Sio Bridge, Busia, 21st September 2011: Four people burnt to death as they siphoned petrol from an overturned tanker near Sio Bridge along the Busia- Kisumu road. Over 40 others were evacuated by St John Ambulance Rescuers to Busia District Hospital and Western General Hospitals with serious burns.

 

Sinai Slum, Nairobi, 12th September: The St John Ambulance crew marred by challenges of lack of adequate ambulance on Monday woke up with an evacuation mission to rescue over 100 victims of fuel fire at Nairobi’s Sinai Slum. Over 93 people died on the spot and most of them burnt beyond recognition.

 

Embakasi Nairobi, 14th June 2011: Two people died as five were rescued after a six-storey building that was under construction collapsed at Nairobi's Pipeline area. 16 people were working at the construction site when the building came down. St John’s Ambulance, Kenya Army personnel, fire brigade, and other rescuers were struggling to reach any other survivors.

 

Kirinyaga Road, Nairobi, 5th June 2011: Over 34 people were injured in an explosion that occurred at Ngara along Kirinyaga road in Nairobi. 15 of the casualties were evacuated by St John Ambulance to different hospitals within Nairobi, while others with minor soft tissue injuries were treated and discharged.

 

River Road, Nairobi, 21st December 2010: At least three people have been killed and 39 injured by a bomb explosion at a bus station in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, police have said. St John Ambulance rescuers arrived first on the seen since their ambulance dispatch center is strategically located within the CBD. Blast blamed on militants linked to al-Qaida targets Ugandans travelling home for Christmas.
