Community Health for Rural Residents in Kenya

St John Ambulance is improving the health status of rural residents in Kenya by increasing access to a quality healthcare system.
The focus is on providing a range of quality health services to rural communities, while simultaneously enabling local ownership through training programmes that enhance financial sustainability.
St John Community health workers/volunteers provide preventive and promotive primary health care at the household level and provide outreach services to rural households.
Community volunteers help ensure that benefits like safe motherhood, community home based care, and caring for the sick reach out to the wider and dispersed rural community.

VCT and Trauma Counselling

St John Ambulance Kenya partners with the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) to provide quality HIV counseling and testing services to people in Nairobi’s headquarter and Mombasa office.
Trauma counselling is available to all Kenyans. The trauma counsellor utilizes specialized techniques to identify and work through the emotions that have been internalized from the event or events they have gone through.
Working in a confidential setting, counsellors listen attentively to their clients and offer them the time, empathy and respect they need to express their own feelings, and perhaps understand them from a different perspective, thereby reducing their confusion and enabling them to make changes in their life if they decide to do so.
